Group Work Programs
Therapeutic group work programs and educational workshops can support individuals in building resilience, learning new skills, promote positive relationships, and increase social connection. Groups and workshops can be developed based on the needs of the individuals and offered to services within the community, schools, or other outreach contexts. Gardening Groups for Children
Gardening has wonderful sensory and body based experiences that can soothe our nervous systems. This group is for children and young people of all ages who have experienced trauma or family difficulties. It has a special focus on grounding emotions through connection with nature, opportunities for various sensory experiences (which support regulation in the body, mind, spirit) and a place for children to enjoy social connections to others in the group. Themes of playfulness, joy and laughter, safety and respect for each other and earth are woven into each weeks activities. The children are supported in trying out new skills, being creative and magical in their imagination, and planting new hopes for their futures.
Body, Sensory, and Art Based Workshops
Fostering children and young people to express their experiences through creative expression, sensory and somatic based therapies, art & craft, movement and yoga as well as mindfulness meditations is shown to correspond to a decrease in levels of anxiety and through soothing the amygdala and limbic system (associated with distressed based responses) and an activation of parts of the brain associated with joy and relaxation.
Branching Connections Family Therapeutic Group Program
Branching Connections is a creative therapeutic family group program underpinned by neurobiology of attachement and trauma theory and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy Intervention (Dan Hughes). The group space provides opportunities for the family to delight in each other, be well held during high emotions and be supported by trained trauma therapists.
Trauma specific family therapeutic group work can promote the child’s experience of relational safety and reduce blocked trust, and also reduce risks of blocked care from caregivers who are caring for children who have been impacted by developmental trauma.
Together as a family unit, they make their own creative, tangible art piece to take home and hang as a reminder of their time in group, their new learning and their current strengths. This art work will be created over a series of 8-10 weeks, with each item representing a meaningful theme discussed in group and the family’s ongoing relational connection. Alongside creating the family art ‘branch’, family members are invited to engage in therapeutic activities and discussions that encourage relational safety experiences and trust building, emotional literacy development, co-regulation for carers towards their children, building self-regulation skills, increasing helpful communication, deepening connection and family cohesion, whilst also holding space for positive individuation.
Wrapped Program
Wrapped in Angels is a strengths & resilience-based group that is run as a journey of re-discovering the meaning and connections in life. The small group process offers a safe space for children and young people to be creative, share experiences and fun moments, learn about healthy ways to manage big emotions, practice mindfulness and explore their hopes and dreams for their future.
During the group, children and young people will create their very own special blanket, each which will hold a colourful representation of themes such as hope, love, protection, warmth and safety. This blanket is a tangible reminder of what is meaningful for them and what helps them feel strong, empowered, connected and safe. It is uniquely theirs. *sewing skills are not required. I am a trained faciliator in this program.
Circle of Security Parenting
- At times all parents feel lost or without a clue about what a child might need from them. Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you. The Circle of Security Parenting program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened.
- As a trained facilitator, I work with parents and caregivers to help them to:
- Understand their child’s emotional world by learning to read emotional needs
- Support their child’s ability to successfully manage emotions
- Enhance the development of their child's self esteem
- Honour the innate wisdom and desire for their child to be secure
